Base Jumper

Road Trips

What a great way to see NZ! The camper with a unique style all of its own. Our first time and it was so easy and enjoyable to use and live in for 5 weeks! Best bits? Cruise control and no rattling in the back! The vehicle was the envy of other tourer’s! We dropped off to visit the Auckland base (passing by heading south) and were invited in for lunch with the team - thanks for sharing your lunch with us guys! Now that's the 'Wilderness Experience' for you in a nutshell!

6 Design Philosophies

When RoadCraft set out to build the best campervans in New Zealand they didn't consult the textbooks. They used common-sense and logic - because no one else in the motorhome industry was doing the same.

Campervans and motorhomes worthy of a standing ovation just didn't exist before the Base Jumper. Whether it was incredibly poor layouts, cluttered interiors or functional nightmares, they all had one thing in common - disaster. Without batting an eyelid, the RoadCraft team set out to change the norms.

As New Zealanders through and through, the team built a fleet of rental campervans fit for the local environment. Our Base Jumper motorhomes reflect true Kiwi adventures and there's no doubt about it - they're a revolution in design and unrivalled comfort. With 6 design philosophies paving the way, Wilderness' fleet is evolving into something rather epic...

Indoor/outdoor flow

Like most New Zealander's, we love the great outdoors and if we can't be outside, we at least want to feel like we are. The Base Jumper makes it possible. With rear doors opening 270 degrees you can enjoy beautiful landscapes from the couch or, if the weather permits, you can turn the BBQ on and befriend the free outdoor table and chairs.

Power to perform

There are 3 things we guarantee you will find on the roads in New Zealand - steep hills, windy corners and squashed possums. We can't do much about the possums but, we can definitely help with the other two.

The Fiat Ducato is the only chassis in the world which was specifically built for campervans. They have 2.3L diesel engines which draw 320Nm torque and 88kw/120 horsepower so you can rest easy knowing you won't be holding any one up!

Our rental campervans were designed for New Zealand's rugged and treacherous road conditions. They have plenty of grunt going uphill, over mountains and on gravel roads. Whether you are travelling in snow, rain or, sunshine, the ABS brakes and numerous safety add-ons will keep you feeling safe and sound around all the corners.

Chilling out

We know that a good adventure will always ‘take it out of you' and we also know that a good adventure is not complete without relaxing afterwards - comfort is everything. That's why our campervans have one of the best wraparound couches you'll see in a motorhome rental fleet. The entertainment system is to match - it will keep you dancing ‘til the sun goes down. With an Mp3/CD player in surround sound and a TV & DVD player on a swivelling mount, you can easily relax and unwind before the day ahead of you.

Space for toys

For most New Zealander's the good ole' kiwi camping holiday involves toys and these days, they're not the ones mum was packing when we were lit'luns. When designing the Base Jumper, we knew we needed a campervan that could carry our snowboards, boogie boards, cricket sets...and all the other toys we own - without having to compromise any living space or, give our clothes away like the back-packer days.

Internal lockers line both sides of the Base Jumper and you can fit more luggage in our rental campervans than most airlines let you carry. To create as much room as possible, we also elevated the wraparound couch to create a large L-shaped boot for storing gear underneath.

Four seasons

It's a known fact that passionate New Zealanders don't let the weather stop them. Be it rain, hail, snow, sunshine or 150 knot winds, you will always find someone out and about getting among it. Our campervans are no different.

Whether you are heading up the mountain with snow chains on or, meandering around the coast to the beach, the Base Jumper will keep you smiling day in day out. The indoor/outdoor flow will look after you in the summer months and diesel heater and heated towel rail will take care of the cooler days.

Functionality

Functionality is a fundamental part of the Base Jumper design. If it wasn't for this philosophy, there wouldn't even be a Base Jumper. It would be a Muperj Sabe - a jumbled mess, like most other rental campervans. As Leonardo da Vinci would say, "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication".

Compromising space and functionality isn't an easy task but the RoadCraft design team have nailed it. Everything below the waist is a draw and everything above the waist is a cupboard. Clean lines increase the feeling of space and a well-thought out floor plan means freedom to move around your campervan without toe-crunching your travel buddy.
